ANGO’s Enchanting Concert at St Andrews Brighton

ANGO’s concert at St Andrews Church, Brighton on August 18th was met with resounding acclaim, drawing an enthusiastic audience for an afternoon of unforgettable musical performances. The concert showcased a rich and diverse repertoire, leaving 500 attendees spellbound with its blend of operatic, orchestral, and instrumental pieces.

The afternoon commenced with an evocative rendition of "My Homeland" by Chi Wenjin, a famous Chinese composer, followed by Mascagni’s evocative "Cavalleria Rusticana: Intermezzo". The audience was then treated to the melodious "Merry Widow: Love Unspoken" by Lehar, featuring the talented soprano Nicole Wallace and tenor Paul Biencourt.

Paul Biencourt continued to shine with his performance of "L'elisir d'amore: Una furtiva lagrima" by Donizetti, showcasing his remarkable vocal range and emotional depth.

The audience was also treated to additional performances by Nicole Wallace and Paul Biencourt, in Verdi’s "Nabucco: Va Pensiero" and "La Traviata: Brindisi", whose vocal talents were a highlight of the afternoon.

The afternoon also featured Strauss’s elegant "Blue Danube", Massenet’s deeply moving "Thais: Meditation" performed by soloist Helen Bower, and the vibrant "Dance of the Yao People" by Tieshan/Yuan, which is another popular piece by Chinese composers.

The concert concluded with a dazzling rendition of Bizet’s "Carmen: Suite No. 1 (including Habanera)", featuring mezzo soprano Juel Riggall, whose dynamic performance brought the afternoon to a thrilling close.
