A remarkable first concert.
What a successful first concert of the 2021 concert season! This memorable night featured smaller ensembles of ANGO, with tastes of several musical styles, and is most certainly a night to remember.
The concert began with a fine performance from our Brass trio, featuring some of the Romantic era favourites. We heard bite-sized highlights from Tchaikovsky’s Nutcracker Suite and Prokofiev’s Romeo and Juliet. This served as an interesting prelude Fried’s Spanish Winds and The Three Musketeers, played by our Woodwind trio. This lovely work serenaded and wooed, with its mellow and playful melody, exemplifying the sonorous harmony of the flute, clarinet and oboe. Due to some changes, our third performance was a string quartet arrangement of Gang Chen and Zhanhao He’s Butterfly Lovers, followed by the first movement of Dvorak’s American Quartet. This performance was lovely, yet striking at the same time, and drew a close to the first half of the concert.
The second half of the night began with a sorrowful, yet hauntingly beautiful rendition of Barber’s Adagio for Strings. After which was Grieg’s renowned Holberg Suite in its entirety, which ended in a momumentous performance of the Rigaudon.
What a night this was! We at ANGO are very much looking forward to seeing you at our second concert on August 7th.
